
BLACKPINK has set another new record in K-pop history with 'BOOMBAYAH'.
BLACKPINK is the first K-pop group to make a name for a group that has two music videos with more than 800 million views on YouTube.
The music video for BLACKPINK's "BOOMBAYAH" surpassed 800 million views on YouTube on Feb. 24. To commemorate this, YG Entertainment released a congratulatory message on their official blog which showed BLACKPINK's "BOOMBAYAH" activities.
"BOOMBAYAH" marked BLACKPINK's debut with "WHISTLE." The strong drum beat and unique synth sound are impressive, and the chorus chants "Oppa" evoked strong addiction. They became the talk of the town when they debuted as BLACKPINK, and have been continuously loved until now, proved their global popularity.
This marked the first time among K-pop groups that BLACKPINK has two music videos with more than 800 million views. BLACKPINK had earlier won the title of the K-pop group's single music video and the highest number of views ever, achieved 1 billion views with the music video for "DDU-DU DDU-DU."
The music video for "KILL THIS LOVE" and "AS IF IT'S YOUR LAST" easily surpassed 700 million views, with 800 million views on the horizon. It also has a total of eight music videos released since their debut, as well as a total of 18 videos of 100 million views, including choreography videos and music broadcasts.
BLACKPINK proved their unrivaled presence as a global artist, breaking their first and highest YouTube record at a rapid pace. BLACKPINK's current YouTube channel subscribers, listed on the "Diamond Creator Awards," surpassed 10 million subscribers for YouTube channels for the first time in a K-pop girl group, reached 33.3 million, the largest single channel in Korea.
BLACKPINK rose to prominence as a world-class girl group encompassed the global stage in 2019, successfully finished their world tour, the largest of their kind for a K-pop girl group, called the 32nd in 23 cities on four continents. In addition, Japan's three major dome tours, which were recently held as part of the world tour, also sold a total of four tickets, drawing a total of 205,000 viewers to prove their popularity there.
