BLACKPINK has been highlighted by influential foreign media outlets, reaffirming their "Kill This Love" syndrome that has spread around the world this year.
The British fashion magazine GQ released its 10 best songs of the year, "The Biggest, Boldest Song of 2019," on December 29.
BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ ranked ninth on the list. Among the songs by world-class pop stars such as Lizzo, Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa, "Kill This Love" was the only K-pop singer to sing. On "Kill This Love," GQ praised "It’s a song that sounds like a litmus test paper to people who say they don’t like K-pop," and raised BLACKPINK to a completely different level.
"Kill This Love" captured both the popular and the critical mass of the global market this year. In addition, she rewrote the history of K-pop girl groups by recording various achievements on global music charts.
When it was released in April, it ranked 41st on the Billboard main chart of Hot 100 and 24th on the Billboard 200 chart, and stayed on the charts for four consecutive weeks to write the first K-pop girl group record.
Recently, they have raised their status to include three "E! People's Choice Awards," "Music of the Year" selected by world-renowned music critic Pitchfork, "Top 100 Songs of the Year" selected by Billboard reporters, "Song of the Year" by U.S. culture and art magazine Papers, and "Tracklist" by the world's most prestigious global music magazine, K-pop.
BLACKPINK is working hard to prepare for their new album with a goal of making a comeback early next year. Music fans are paying keen attention to what kind of new song BLACKPINK, which was loved both at home and abroad with "Kill This Love," will return.
