
The music video for group BTS' "IDOL" surpassed 500 million views.
The music video for "IDOL," the title track of the repackaged album LOVE YOURSELF and "Answer," released in August last year, has attracted more than 500 million YouTube views around 3:54 a.m. today. "Feat. Nicki Minaj," Nicki Minaj, the featured artist. When combined with the number of views on music videos, the number exceeds 579.92 million.
This will mark BTS' fifth 500 million-view music video of its career, following "DNA," which surpassed 700 million views, and remixes of "Fireburne," "FAKE LOVE" and "MIC Drop." This marks a self-renewed break from the record of holding the most 500 million-view music video by a South Korean singer, set in May with a remix of "MIC Drop."
Shortly after its release, "IDOL" became a global sensation, topping the "top song" chart in 66 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, and Britain, 11th on Billboard's "Hot 100" and 21st on the U.K.'s "Operational Single Chart Top 100."
The music video for "IDOL" also proved its global popularity by winning the Music Video of the Year award at the 2018 E! People's Choice Awards, an awards ceremony for American music, movies, and TV, in November last year.
Based on the tropical savanna grasslands, Bukcheong Saja Nori, Euro-Asian architecture and a colorful set of traditional Korean styles, the music video continues the festive mood from the start of the video to the end. In particular, the performance that Afrikaans Dance Guara and Korean samulnori and mask dance meet reveals well the "Fest with Fans" BTS wanted to show.
